How about Pluto? It was rejected for being a non-planet. Then summarily cast out after years of being included in our solar system. Not unlike the GOP, after years of dominating Congress, soon to be suddenly cast out for being partisan, political toadies to Bush, instead of representing their constituents.
I liked the 'crapus crapus'. It may well be a new species of politician, and should be seriously considered.
My goof - The genus is spelled Carapus. I couldn't find any with the species name carapus, but that may have changed since my professor told us about it in the 1990's. Names can change (esp. the species) over time.
The common name is the pearlfish.
But it does live inside the anus of a sea cucumber. Its a commensal relationship - the fish benefits with no harm to the host.
But you are right that nothing living should be condemned to the ignominy of being the GOP Mascot. Otherwise I would suggest a slime mold (Kingdom Fungi) or E. coli (Kingdom Monera). The reason for slime mold is obvious, and most people know that E. coli is the bacteria predominantly found in human feces - the content of what Repukes spew forth.
But they are alive. So my next suggestion is the Ebola virus. Because it is debatable as to whether they are "alive" - they don't fall under any Kingdom in Biology. As everyone knows, Repukes have no souls, thus it is questionable as to whether they area actually "alive".
For those who don't know, victims of Ebola suffer a 90%+ fatality rate, have bleeding out of various body orifices (eyes, nose, ears I believe), and I'm pretty sure uncontrollable diarrhea and vomiting. These are what all those who espouse Repukes view suffer from, metaphorically speaking.
I had a fun time at another political chat room last night where we suggested new mascots for the GOP.
Someone suggested the Dodo because it is extinct. One a hyena, and one a carrion bird.
But I suggested a sea cucumber symbiont. The fish Crapus crapus (yes - that is its actual scientific name) lives inside the anus of its sea cucumber host.
Someone responded that it was too dignified for the GOP.
