Of corse it has affected me. My country is facing a financial crisis, and Gordon Brown is making it worse. And just becouse something hasn't affected you, it doesn't mean you shouldn't care. There was once a german preacher who opposed Hitler and the nazis, that said:
"The nazis first came for the communists, and I didn't speak up, becouse I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the jews, and I didn't speak up, beouse I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up, becouse I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up, becouse I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and there was noone left to speak up."
So you see, if helping others becouse it's nice isn't good enough a reason for you, then do it becouse if someone is being oppressed in someway and noone speaks up, eventually you will be oppressed too.
I live in Iceland. On October 8th Gordon Brown invoked the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security act of 2001. Using it on the people of Iceland. It was becouse Iceland is, like the USA, facing a finacial crisis. The banks here really screwed up and one of the banks was from the UK. So, some British people lost some money. But not nearly as much as some of the people here have lost. Gordon Brown punished the people of Iceland for something that a British bank did. Icelanders aren't terrorists. Infact, Iceland is the most peaceful country in the world. Prime-Minister Brown is using this law to terrorize Iceland. He is the real terrorist. I know there's not much you can do, but at least sign the petition they have on this website: indefence.is
